Hurricane IRENE: 08/28/11 and 08/29/11
We may have Hurricane IRENE tomorrow or Sunday. We cannot avoid a risk, but we can prepare our self to face it. Following are some tips I forward you to consider.
1. Garden tools, awnings, grills and toys should be anchored or sheltered.
2. Set the Refrigerator on maximum cold; do not open unless necessary; keep a full stock of non perishable items and canned foods.
3. Close all outdoor electrical outlets and cover with duct tape.
4. Fill bathtubs and sinks with water in case water supply is interrupted or contaminated; turn off main water to the house.
5. Park your vehicle against the garage door and keep the gas tank full.
6. Secure garage and porch doors.
7. Move furniture away from exposed windows and doors.
8. Stay in a central room or on the downwind side of the house; move to another room as wind direction changes.
9. Insert wedges in sliding patio doors; if the doors are not protected, damaging winds could lift them off their tracks and blow in to the house.
10. Install storm panels, plywood or shutters over all windows, skylights, doors and open vents; tape exposed glass to protect from shattering.
11. Lower radio and television antennas.
12. Keep match stick, candles ( caution with care), and torch with battery.
13. If electricity or Gas supply interrupted, Please call Orange & Rockland. They will not know automatically you are out of electricity.
Dear friends, If hurricane frighten us; let us face with a smile.
With regards,
Alexander Podimannil
